About Us

Our journey to make mental health care accessible for every woman and girl in Nigeria

Our Story

Morayo Wellness Initiative is a nonprofit founded in 2025, born out of a personal mission to ensure every woman and girl in Nigeria has access to high-quality, trauma-informed mental health care. We believe healing is a right, not a luxury.

Our name, Morayo, means "I see joy again," reflecting our commitment to help survivors of abuse, early marriage, and pregnancy trauma rediscover strength and hope. We are dedicated to making trauma-informed mental health care accessible to every woman and girl, whether in person at trusted local clinics or online via secure video sessions, and integrating therapy seamlessly into daily life, not just in crisis moments.

Who Can Apply for Therapy Funding?

We support girls and women in Nigeria (starting in Lagos) who have experienced or are currently experiencing:

Sexual abuse or violence
Early or forced marriage
Unwanted or early pregnancy
Postpartum depression
Emotional trauma or grief
Mental health crisis (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD)
Abandonment, isolation, or untreated depression
Domestic or intimate partner violence

We prioritize individuals with no insurance, support, or financial means to access care.

The Challenge We're Addressing

Access Gap

Fewer than 10% of Nigerians in need receive any mental health support. This gap is even wider for women facing abuse or trauma.

Cultural Stigma

Mental health is still a taboo topic in many Nigerian communities. Shame, myths, and misinformation discourage help-seeking.

Practical Barriers

Traffic congestion, unsafe commutes, and transport costs can make in-person therapy out of reach.

Digital Divide

Around 45% of Nigerian women have internet access, higher in Lagos (66%), but many still rely on basic phones, limiting digital reach.

Our Guiding Principles
